What kind of road can I expect up to the Plunge?
About 8 miles out of Crouch, the paved road ends as it enters the Boise National Forest. From there to the Plunge it's all dirt and gravel. The road can often be extremely washboardy in summer which can make for slow going for larger vehicles like RVs. The posted speed limit on the non-paved road is 25 MPH.
Is the road to the Plunge open all year?
The road in winter is kept groomed as a snowmobile trail and is passable only by snowmobiles.
In the spring, when is the road open for all vehicles?
It's usually mid-April before the road is open for regular car traffic. After the snow is gone, the road is a mud bog for awhile, needing a good 4-wheel drive vehicle to get through it. If you're in doubt of the road conditions, call us at the Plunge at 208.739.3400 (please be aware that our phone is a cell phone and sometimes the reception is poor or non-existent.)
What are the pool hours?
Pool hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., except for Wednesday. The pool
is closed and drained each Wednesday morning for cleaning.
By 3 or 4 p.m. on Wednesday the water is 3 - 4 feet deep
and the pool can be used again. By
8 p.m. the pool is back to its full water level.
Is it an indoor or an outdoor pool?
It's an uncovered outdoor pool.
What's the depth of the pool?
14" to 5'6".
Is there a lifeguard?
Under 35 people in the pool, there is no lifeguard. Over 35 people, we provide one lifeguard.
What are the pool's flow rate, temperature and volume?
The water flows through the pool at a rate of 540 gallons per minute. The water enters the pool at 100º F. and exits the pool at 98º F. The pool holds 186,000 gallons of water. This type of pool is known as a "skim pool." The water flows in one side of the pool and out the other, changing the entire volume of water in about 6 hours.
Is chlorine added to the pool?
One cup of chlorine is added to the pool each morning to control algae growth. The chlorine dissipates by early afternoon.
Are there showers?
Not at this time.
What does it cost to swim?
$8.00 per day per adult, $6.00 for children 12 and under, $6.00
for seniors (age 60+). Under age 2 is free. The evening-only
swim from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. is priced at $6.00 per
person. All prices are subject to change.
Do you rent swimsuits and towels?
Yes, for $2.00 each. Price subject
to change.
Can we reserve campsites / campgrounds?
Campsites are on a first come - first served basis. We do have
2 group campsites with water that can be reserved, one large and one small.
The small site has 4 fire pits, will accommodate 15 to 40 people, and
requires a $100 deposit. The larger site has 7 fire pits, will hold 50-150
people and requires a $150 deposit. Large groups can reserve both, as
the two sites are across the stream from each other with a foot bridge
over the stream. There is a third group campsite without water which will
hold 45 to 150 people. All prices are
subject to change.
The total charge for a group site is determined by the
number of sleeping units located on the site: $12.50 per night per sleeping
unit (tent, RV, etc.). The reservation deposit will be applied towards
the total charge.
Pool use charge is separate from camping fees.
